Starting immediately or upon agreement
The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birth place of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.
We are looking to recruit a self-motivated __Data Scientist__ to join our team at the Proteomics Core Facility (PCF). The PCF provides state-of-the art proteomic methodologies to support life science research at the Biozentrum. It is tightly integrated in an internationally leading scientific surrounding and contributes to multiple interdisciplinary projects. The position offers a challenging opportunity at a key intersection of rapidly moving areas of research.
Your responsibilities
The successful applicant’s main responsibilities will be the implementation and maintenance of informatics solutions, also with strong support of in-house bioinformatics groups, to analyse and interpret quantitative mass spectrometric data which is generated by the various workflows offered by the PCF. These include global (LFQ, TMT, SWATH) and targeted (PRM) mass spectrometric analysis of proteins, modifications, protein/drug interactions and structural constraints. The position involves the development and implementation of informatics solutions to manage, display and search proteomics datasets, the database-based management of results, support in data analysis and the possibility for independent research projects.
Your profile
Applicants should have a degree in a life science or computational discipline. Excellent skills in R/Bioconductor based programming and good understanding of Linux and Windows operation systems as well as prior experience with the analysis of quantitative biological datasets are essential.
