We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated person with experience in human genetics to join our team working on the genetics of obesity and thinness. This post funded by the Wellcome Trust would be ideally suited to scientists wanting to move into research co-ordination. Experience of organisational/administrative work in addition to laboratory research in the genetics of human disease would be an advantage.

You will be based at the Institute of Metabolic Science, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, where you will join Professor Farooqi’s internationally leading team of scientists and clinical researchers working to translate genetic findings into benefits for health www.goos.org.uk). Our research has led to multiple scientific discoveries in the area of metabolic disease and informs the design of therapies for patients with obesity and diabetes.

The ideal candidate should be educated to at least degree level in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science or a closely related discipline. You will be responsible for the oversight of genetic studies using Sanger sequencing, exome and genome sequencing and will contribute to the data management, monitoring and QC of genomic data. Suitably qualified candidates will also contribute to the computational analysis of genomic data (additional training can be provided).

Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills are essential. Programming skills would be an advantage.
