Hi all:
I would like to understand better how to apply my learned statistics in college to practical use of RNA-seq analysis. Recently, I have been trying to understand how to appreciate the p-value from RNA-seq data. There are many illustrations, and I went through some of them but still not sure I understood correctly.

You need to first have a clear understanding of the following concepts: negative binomial distribution, dispersion, size factor, generalized linear model, maximum likelihood estimation, coefficient, standard error, and Wald test. If any of those concepts are not familiar to you, you need to learn how statistical modeling works either by taking a formal course or reading an introductory book on that particular topic. If you're sure you know all of those concepts, then read through the Materials and Methods section of the DESeq2 paper.
