Bioinformatician/Bioinformatics Data Analyst

The St. Anna Kinderspital and the Children´s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI) are known for providing the highest quality of childhood cancer patient care and development of new treatment strategies, respectively. For our Bioinformatics Core Facility we are looking for a Bioinformatician/ Bioinformatics Data Analyst who will conduct analyses of genomics data from childhood cancers in close collaboration with molecular biologists, geneticists, pediatric oncologists and other bioinformaticians. Current projects include genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic  analyses of pediatric leukemia and solid tumors on primary tumors and liquid biopsies (disseminated tumor cells and cell-free circulating tumor DNA), and the analysis of experimental model systems.

 

As part of the bioinformatics core facility you will:

  • Support CCRI scientists conducting genomics projects in all stages from the experimental  planning to data interpretation, visualization and writing papers
  •  Use state of the art methods and develop pipelines for the analysis of NGS data including whole-genome sequencing (WGS), whole-exome sequencing (WES), gene panels, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, etc.
  •  Integrate data from different sources (including literature data) to flexibly meet the demands of individual projects
  •  Participate in collaborations, train users in the application of bioinformatics tools

Your Qualifications:

  • Degree or extensive track record in bioinformatics, computational biology or data analysis
  • Experience with NGS data analysis, including WGS, WES, ChIP-seq and RNA-seq
  •  Solid programming and/or scripting skills, proficiency with Linux/Unix
  • R/Bioconductor, Statistics
  • Experience with workflow frameworks and cluster computing is a plus
  •  Ability to work independently, self-motivated and creatively
  •  Excellent communicational skills

The CCRI is situated in the center of Vienna, one of Europe’s most important places for medical research and life sciences and cited as the most livable city in the world. It hosts nearly 100 investigators working in the fields of pediatric leukemia, solid tumors, immunology and stem cell transplantation. Tightly associated with St. Anna Children´s hospital, the biggest center for pediatric hematology and oncology in Austria and one of the leading treatment centers for children with cancer in Europe, the CCRI performs basic, translational and clinical research. Genomics and epigenomics of pediatric cancers are areas of strategic development on its way to precision medicine.
