I have been unable after several attempts to use the mailman www
interface
to the Bioconductor mailing list. If I press any of the action buttons
(subscribe, edit options etc) I get a message which says
"Bug in Mailman version 2.0.13
We're sorry, we hit a bug!
Please inform the webmaster for this site of this problem. Printing of
traceback and other system information has been explicitly inhibited, but
the webmaster can find this information in the Mailman error logs."
This occurs whether or not I have filled in the form.
I also get a Security Alert box alerting me that the site's security
certificate is not trusted everytime I access any of the mailman www
pages.
I am running Internet Explorer 5.50 under Windows 2000 Professional.
i didn't seen any replies to this. Martin Maechler the mail admin
is in the mountains for a couple of weeks. i have had no problems
with navigator 7.0 under windows. perhaps you can use that
in the mean time.

I have attempted to use the mailman www interface under three systems:
IE5.50 under Windows 2000, Netscape under linux and Netscape 4.7 under
MacOS 9. All three systems complain that the security certificate is not
trusted. Using Netscape under MacOS or Linux, I am able to work through a
wizard to explicitly accept the certificate as trusted, after which the
mailman site works correctly. Using IE under Windows 2000, I have not be
able to successfully register the stat.math.ethz.ch site as a trusted site
either using the wizard or manually. I have tried a number of different
site combinations when attempting manual registration.
It is possible that this is "a Windows problem", but I have not come across
this need to explicitly register the certificate in this way before and
then there is the "Bug Mailman version 2.0.13" message.

I just used the Wizard under IE 6.0 (win 2000 NT) and confirm
part of what you have said -- each time I go for the web interface
from a new IE session, the certificate is challenged. Perhaps
Martin needs to get a different certificate. But I did not have
any problem using the interface to look at the archives, or to
view the subscriber list, change options, etc., under this
version of IE. It could be that I am grandfathered in. Others
will have to try to trigger the Bug Mailman error.
I haven't had any trouble going through the archives, but Chimera (on
OS X obviously) definitely complains about the certificate.

I remember a while back seeing something aboutthis on the R-help list.
I
forget the reason but basically we just have to deal with the fact
that
you have to get a new cert every time.
Installing IE6.0 for Windows solves most of the problem. IE still
complains
that the certificate is not trusted, but it does this only once on
entry to
the site instead of continuously, and the bug message no longer
appears.
