The Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI), Harvard Medical School has one junior software programming position available for immediate appointment. The position is part of the Laboratory for Personalized Medicine (LPM, lpm.hms.harvard.edu) program in Personalized Medicine whose mission is to identify and translate biomedical informatics methodology, analysis and applications into the clinical enterprise in support of personalized medicine.
The LPM’s objective is to identify clinically impactful devices, procedures, and biomedical informatics resources; test the clinical validity of those items with likely impact in the personal medicine clinical enterprise; and to execute high priority projects that translate key technologies into the clinical IT enterprise in support of LPM’s healthcare collaborator’s strategic personalized preventive medicine objectives. The long-term goal is to create a translational science method and environment that supports the continuous and systematic testing and translation of highest priority technologies and discoveries into the clinical enterprise. This objective is at the heart of translational science and will support the joint HMS/ Partners/
Harvard Affiliate CTSC efforts.
This position will participate in the development of cutting-edge software applications and suites dedicated to solving the most pressing and complex challenges in translational biomedical science. A Jr. Software Engineer will work closely with senior members of the LPM’s software team and will contribute to all facets of programming and application building. Specific projects may include front-end web interface/web service development, back-end computational programming, algorithm/tool development, or process scripting. Additional responsibilities will consist of specification/documentation writing, broad-scope and unit-level quality assurance and testing, and diligent code and application maintenance.
Basic Qualifications: BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field is required. At least two year's programming experience or extensive, advanced, and relevant coursework.
Additional Qualifications: Specific experience with Java/C++ and Perl (or an equivalent scripting language) is required. Prior experience with scientific programming, statistical packages (such as R or MATLAB), and familiarity with UNIX environments is highly desirable. Applicants with some prior web development experience (HTML, PHP) are preferred. Applicants with prior experience developing scientific software and biomedical informatics applications will be given preference. Candidate must be a strong self-motivator, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and must be an enthusiastic team contributor.
This is a one year grant-funded position with the possibility of renewal.
