Hi,

I tried in vain to install Rsubread.

> biocLite("Rsubread")
BioC_mirror: 'http://www.bioconductor.org'
Using R version 2.14, BiocInstaller version 1.2.1.
Installing package(s) 'Rsubread'
Warning message:
In getDependencies(pkgs, dependencies, available, lib) :
  package ?Rsubread? is not available (for R version 2.14.1)

You don't say which operating system you are using, but Rsubread is not presently available for Windows or Mac OS X.

I think that that was why. I am using Mac, and could not compile subread either.

Rsubread is not supported on Mac at present, even if you try and compile it from source. Please see the following thread on the Bioconductor list for an explanation:
