Hi I` d like to subscribe to the bioconductor mail list. I` m a biologist and I` ve just started using R and bioconductor softwares to analise gene expression data obtained by microarray and taqman array (Applied biosystems) experiments. I´d like to know which file formats are compatible with bioconductor package I´ve seen that almost all microarray files can be read but I also have some .xls and .csv files. Is it possible to analise and to plot a heatmap graph on .csv data? Thanks a lot Luiza Stankevicins [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Hi Luiza, To subscribe, please go here: http://bioconductor.org/help/mailing-list/#bioconductor While you subscribe you will also probably want to read the posting guide: http://bioconductor.org/help/mailing-list/posting-guide/ You can also search older messages here: http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.science.biology.informatics.conductor And if you just want to learn more about the project in general, you can also explore our website here: http://www.bioconductor.org/ And to answer some of your questions, yes you can make heat maps of the contents of .csv and .xls files. You may want to start with read.table() and heatmap(), but odds are that if you really need to use bioconductor, you will probably also want to do a bit more than that. What exactly you need will probably depend on details that you left out of your last message.
