Dear All We have a vacancy for a bioinformatician to work at Barts Cancer Centre of Barts & The London School of Medicine. Experience in using the BioMart technology is highly desirable and will be an advantage. We recently advertised for this post but received a small number of applications. Working mainly with BioMart, the successful candidate will be expected to address bioinformatics needs related to the update, maintenance and expansion of the pancreatic expression database www.pancreasexpression.org <http: www.pancreasexpression.org=""> ) to set up the Bioinformatics Infrastructure. The successful candidate will additionally be responsible for pancreatic cancer literature data curation, release cycles as well as the wider development and extension of the analytical side of this platform. Applicants must have a PhD degree in Bioinformatics, a solid understanding and at least two years experience in the analysis and management of high throughput data. A high level of expertise in the use of relational databases, in particular MySQL, is essential, as is experience in molecular biology or cancer research and in using the BioMart technology. The successful candidate must be an expert in the programming language Perl. Experience of additional languages e.g. Java or C, would be highly desirable. Familiarity with Linux network/server administration and web application development technologies will be an advantage. It is also essential that the candidate has clear communication skills, with the ability to present methodologies and results succinctly and to provide advice, training and support for researchers. This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 3 years. The starting salary will be in the range of £30,229 - £31,895 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
