(Apologies for double posting) We have money to support a graduate student (or predoctoral student or postgraduate student, depending on your prefered semantics) to do a PhD in Bioinformatics. The current amount is 34000 euro for 3 years; a one or two year extension is possible (likely?). In addition to the PhD work, there are plenty of opportunities for collaboration with "wet lab" cancer researchers at one of the main cancer research institutes in Spain. The topic of the thesis are gene expression signatures and predictive models of cancer status using gene expression data. Co-direction of the PhD with researchers at other institutions is possible. The candidate should have a bachelors or MSc degree in maths or stats. She/he should be familiar with (o very interested in) multivariate methods (including PCA, PLS, sufficient dimension reduction methods, discriminant analysis), and statistical computing problems, and familiar with linear models, logistic regression, and survival analysis. Proficiency with R (and Bioconductor) and knowledge of C/C++ or Fortran is needed. Also required is a genuine interest in applied statistics and statistical consulting.
