20Officer%20Dec07.pdf
The Epigenetics Group in the Cancer Program in collaboration with the
Peter Wills Bioinformatics Centre at the Garvan Institute of Medical
Research, seek a fulltime Senior Bioinformatics Research Officer to
perform epigenomic analyses including DNA methylation, chromatin
modification and micro RNA genome array studies. The major goal will
be to
initiate and develop a range of novel large scale epigenome analyses
to
identify new epigenetic lesions, in particular in breast and prostate
cancer.
The Garvan Institute is actively engaged in medical research into
major human diseases involving molecular, cellular, genetic and
clinical
research. The Cancer Research Program is an integrated series of
strongly
interactive Research Groups undertaking research aimed at increasing
the
international knowledge base on the development, progression,
treatment
and prevention of human cancers. The current emphasis of the
epigenetic
laboratory centres on developing a deeper understanding of the
mechanism
responsible for aberrant DNA methylation and chromatin remodelling in
cancer.
We are seeking an individual with a PhD who has preferably had
experience in whole genome wide array analyses, in particular ChIP on
chip
tiling arrays. Candidates will have a strong background in
multi-univariate and Bayesian statistics, and experience in
machine-learning techniques. Knowledge of the R programming language
and
experience with Gene Set Enrichment Analysis are desirable. The
successful
applicant will also be given freedom and encouragement to further
develop
statistical techniques for data analysis and will be actively involved
in
specific scientific research projects within the Epigenetics group.
The successful applicant will be required to interact closely with phD
students and postdoctoral scientists to ensure an active and vibrant
Epigenetic Research Program. The successful applicant will report to
the
head of the Epigenetics group, A/Prof Susan Clark. The position is a
full-time fixed term appointment for 24 months in the first instance
with
renewal subject to suitability. Written applications including a cover
letter, Curriculum Vitae, academic transcript and contact details of
three
professional referees, should be forwarded to hr at garvan.org.au, or
mailed
to the address below.
