NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies is an ETH core facility, created to enable and accelerate the execution of translational research projects by providing key technological resources, tools and collaboration opportunities for the personalized health research community. The Clinical Bioinformatics Unit of NEXUS has the mission to apply expertise in bioinformatics and statistics to advance biomedical research and clinical applications.
As a successful candidate, you will be primarily responsible for the statistical analysis of high-throughput data from next generation sequencing experiments (RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, WGS, etc.) from bulk and single cells as a service to users from academia, hospitals, and industry. Support in statistical considerations of sample size and experimental design will be a regular discussion topic with customers. Internally, you will participate in the evaluation and implementation of new methods to improve existing pipelines. The paradigm of reproducible research is of great importance in our group, therefore the use of software tools like markdown, git, snakemake, and containers will be required for development and sharing.
The successful candidate has an MSc or PhD in biostatistics or bioinformatics, a strong background in applied statistics and familiarity with modern methods for classification, regression, and prediction. (S)he has hands-on experience in analyzing biological or medical data, for instance during a master’s thesis or equivalent work in a project, and strong programming skills in R. Ideally, (s)he also has experience with NGS bioinformatics in a unix-based HPC environment. Interest in and enthusiasm for biomedical research projects involving high-dimensional molecular data sets and complex experimental designs is expected. Excellent communication skills in English are required, knowledge of German is a plus.
