Postdoctoral Position: Bioinformatics (100%)

The Molecular Immune Regulation group at the Department of Biomedicine of the University Hospital Basel in Switzerland is seeking a highly motivated postdoc with a strong background in bioinformatic analysis of genome-wide datasets. Our lab is interested in understanding molecular pathways involved in immune regulation. We focus on miRNAs and miRNA-regulated genetic networks in T cells. We combine genetic mouse models with various -omics approaches and apply the latest genome engineering tools to dissect molecular pathways in mouse and human cells (Baumjohann et al., Nat Imm, 2013; Kornete et al, J Imm, 2018). In addition, we develop new concepts for genome engineering-based cell therapy.

Your Position

  • You help to plan future experiments, analyze existing datasets generated in the lab, integrate datasets from public data repositories and contribute to interpretation of the results (e.g. RNA-Seq, HITS-CLIP, genome-wide CRISPR screening, metabolomics, proteomics, targeted genome engineering experiments)
  • Beside your assistance to other lab members, you are highly encouraged to develop and lead your own project
  • You interact closely with the bioinformatics core facility and other embedded bioinformaticians at the institute

Your Profile

  • A PhD degree in a quantitative field (bioinformatics, statistics, physics or mathematics) with a strong interest in the analysis of biological systems
  • Some basic knowledge of immunology
  • At least two-years hands-on experience with next generation sequence data analysis
  • Good statistical and R/Bioconductor programming skills are essential
  • Excellent communication, and teamwork skills

We offer you

  • Cutting-edge, challenging science in a stimulating and well-funded (SNSF, NIH, ERC) research group, with state-of-the art equipment.
  • Support and interactions with the local bioinformatics community at the DBM, and nationally through the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
  • Integration to a lively immunology community with regular seminars by renowned speakers and an annual retreat
  • Competitive salary according to guidelines of the University of Basel/Swiss National Science Foundation
  • Flexible working hours

Application/Contact

Please send a letter of motivation, CV and contact information including e-mail address of three references to: Nicole Salvisberg nicole.salvisberg@unibas.ch, assistant to Prof. Lukas Jeker, Experimental Transplantation Immunology & Nephrology. Please include “Bioinformatics Postdoc” in the subject line.
