Description

As a biostatistician in CAGPM, you will work within applied genomics and precision medicine programs, analyzing high-dimensional genomic and clinical datasets, including clinical survey data, pedigree data, (RNA) sequencing data, microarray data, proteomics data, multiplex PCR data, or other complex ‘omic’ datasets, and wearable device data. Commonly performed analyses include data normalization, clustering, principal components analysis, hypothesis testing, generalized linear models, feature and model selection, and functional enrichment and pathway analyses.

You will apply state-of-the-art and classical statistical approaches to a variety of clinical datasets to elucidate novel biological information and clinical relevance. The specific clinical areas of interest include family health history and inherited disease risk, infectious disease, cardiovascular events, and pharmacogenomics, with continued expansion to other clinical fields.

The CAGPM is a highly collaborative work environment, and you will interact with physicians, biologists, and quantitative scientists within the applied genomics and precision medicine programs by supporting refinement and interpretation of analytical results from biological and clinical studies and activities destined for publication. You will have opportunities for publication, both in methodological journals as well as relevant medical journals. You will assist the team in developing research results into quality manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and may have the opportunity to present your work at relevant scientific meetings or conferences.

You will be an integral member of any team of investigators working on project(s) from which the data is derived.

Requirements

  1. Education/Training: The Biostatistician III position requires a PhD. in biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  2. Experience: Requires two years of experience working on collaborative projects involving high-dimensional data such as genomics, proteomics or metabolomics. Experience with next-generation sequence data is a plus.
  3. Skills:
    1. Exceptional written and oral communication skills and able to communicate effectively with collaborators with varied backgrounds
    2. Time management skills - a successful candidate must manage his/her time and prioritize the importance of various projects and meet deliverable deadlines
    3. Working knowledge of the following: shell scripting (e.g. Bash), R and python. SAS or similar languages are a plus
    4. Experience with version control (e.g. git) and code documentation
    5. Experience with database querying and programmatic access from R, python or similar languages
