The Institute of Medical Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics (IMBEI) at the University Medical Center, is seeking a motivated

Bioinformatician/Statistician (m/f) - Reference 50028764

The Division Biostatistics/Bioinformatics coordinates various biostatistical/bioinformatic supporting activities, covering a broad spectrum of studies. Over the years we established a research program focused on methods development, especially tailored to projects with complex data structures (recurring or concurring events in clinical registries) or to high-dimensional datasets (e.g. derived from gene expression measurements via Next Generation Sequencing).

Your tasks:

  • Statistical modelling, analysis and visualization of high-dimensional molecular data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Microarray data, Methylation arrays) in the scope of the Core Facility Bioinformatics and the CTH Platform Biostatistics/Bioinformatics
  • Development of bioinformatical tools, workflows and pipelines
  • Supporting our cooperation partners in the planning, interpretation and publication of their experiments and results (with pathway and network analysis) for transcriptomics and epigenomics datasets
  • Integration of data stemming from different biological layers (multiple omics sources such as transcriptome, proteome, etc.)
  • Adaptation and development of bioinformatics tools and techniques to domain-specific research questions
  • Contribution to the writing of scientific publications
  • Involvement in activities and events of the Core Facility Bioinformatics (seminars, courses, presentations)

Your profile:

  • Master degree in Bioinformatics, (Bio)Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent programming skills in at least one language (preferably R/Bioconductor, Python, C++), ideally oriented towards NGS data analysis
  • Sound knowledge of statistical concepts is desired
  • Extensive experience in analysing next-generation sequencing datasets (processing, visualization, reporting, storage) will be advantageous
  • Familiarity with Linux environment
  • Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, cooperating in team with other researchers
  • High motivation to learn and solve problems independently
  • Proficiency in written and spoken German and English
