Basically we are looking for an R hacker to streamline the analysis of proteomics (and sometimes genomics) data. Your actual degree doesn't matter as much as your skills. There are separate job postings on the PNNL's website for applicants with BS, MS and PhD degrees.

PNNL is located in the Tri-Cities metro area in the eastern side of the Washington state.  It is just ~3.5 hours drive from Seattle or Portland.

Job Description

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks Post Doctorate Research Associate to work on proteomics data analysis. The candidate will be working closely with the team on a number of cancer proteomics projects funded by NCI/NIH. More details about cancer proteomics projects can be found here

This position involves the development of data analysis pipelines in R, evaluating algorithms and solving cutting-edge problems with big proteomics data in general. Some of the downstream efforts will include integration of proteomics data with transcriptomics and personal genomics or so-called proteogenomics. The candidate will learn about proteomics software tools and perform downstream data analysis that involves parsing the data in the proteomics-specific format, exploratory data analysis, statistical modeling and machine learning. All the data analysis pipelines will be leveraging markdown and Docker containers for reproducible research. The key scientific objective is to learn new biology about different types of cancers. An example of such a study has recently been published in Cell. There is a lot more data and a lot more work do to along the same lines.

More details about the proteomics group in general can be learned on the web-site.
