The Marioni group is looking for a scientific programmer to work on a project funded by the Wellcome Trust to maintain and develop R/Bioconductor packages for single-cell genomics data analysis. The successful applicant will work on improving the efficiency and scalability of software tools developed within the group, by developing and enhancing data architectures and containers for representing and manipulating large single-cell data sets in R. This role will directly contribute to the progress of biomedical research programmes being undertaken in the group.
Applicants should have extensive experience in the R and/or C++ programming languages. Strong consideration will be given to previous code contributions to open-source projects, visible on public repositories like Github. A degree in computer science or related fields is desirable but not necessary. Successful applicants are expected to be able to work in team with other researchers, and to communicate their findings effectively to a diverse audience.
The position will be located at EMBL-EBI Hinxton near Cambridge, UK, and will be for 2 years. EMBL offers attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation. The campus is set in the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside, and our staff enjoy excellent facilities including a gym, a free shuttle bus, an on-site nursery, cafés and restaurant and a library.
