An opportunity is available for a talented Research Officer to join the Shi Lab to work on the development of new bioinformatics methods and on the analyses of sequencing datasets. The appointee will work under the supervision of Dr Wei Shi and collaborate with Prof Axel Kallies’ group at the Peter Doherty Institute (University of Melbourne). Prof Kallies is a world leader in investigating transcriptional networks that regulate immune cell differentiation and diversification. The appointee will work on methodology development for analyses of sequence data generated by next-generation and third-generation sequencers. He/she will also work on collaborative projects to analyze genomic sequencing data such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq data.

The applicant should have a PhD degree in computer science, bioinformatics or other relevant disciplines. Strong programming skills are required. Experience in C/C++ programming is essential and experience in R and Python programming is desirable. Previous experience in bioinformatics is not essential but the applicant is expected to be motivated to work on genomics and bioinformatics research.

The appointee should have excellent communication skills, contributing to the scientific discussions and presenting research outcomes in internal and external meetings. He/she is expected to work with minimal supervision under the general direction of Dr Shi and Prof Kallies. The appointee will also contribute to the writing of research publications and grant proposals.

The position will be for 2 years in the first instance. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Up to 17% superannuation and attractive salary packaging options are available.
